Seeing through the Eye of Your Mystical Heart
Your life is holy ground.
And you are a mystic. . . .
Mysticism is a way of seeing–beyond the turmoil,
the rights and wrongs, the good guys and villains–
to the radiant heart of things.
A mystic gazes through the eyes of love,
And love reveals itself as the only true thing.
Mirabai Starr, Ordinary Mysticism
Angels are the thoughts, the memory, the sensation of love.
They are whatever comes and shifts us from
being lost within ourselves, to seeing again,
not with the ego,
but with the eye of the heart.
Meggan Waterson, Mary Magdalene Revealed
As Mirabai Starr and teachers from all the world’s wisdom traditions have pointed out, mysticism is a direct experience of the divine. It is seeing with our deep heart and appreciating the wonders of the sacred that “we live and move and have our being in.” (Acts 17:28) When we see through the eye of our heart we are able to see the sacred in each other and in all of creation. We are more able to love one another. With facism and division on the rise worldwide, it is essential to pay attention to what Meggan Waterson calls our “angles.” Now more than ever we need to practice seeing through the eye of our mystical hearts.
Join Patty Speier, experienced teacher, spiritual director and retreat leader, at the beautiful and mystical Redemptorist Renewal Center in the Sonoran Desert of Tucson, Arizona. In this five-day retreat we will listen to the wisdom of the desert and develop and strengthen awareness of our mystical hearts. Through periods of silent meditation/contemplative prayer and thoughtful discussion, we will reflect on how we can better realize that we are, indeed, mystics and practice our ability to see with the eye of the heart.
We will use Mirabai Starr’s new book, Ordinary Mysticism: Your Life as Sacred Ground as our guiding text for our time together in retreat. This book is available on Amazon and in bookstores.
The cost of the retreat is $1,515. This includes all meals and lodging for four nights. It also includes all supplies for the retreat (except the book because you might want to read some of the book before the retreat, though it isn’t a requirement.) It does not include transportation. Payment in full is due at the time of registration. The payment is nonrefundable except in the event that The Institute for Soul-Centered Life and Leaders should cancel the retreat for any reason. Then your payment is fully refundable.
There are a limited number of hermitages and suites available. Please request at time of registration. These will be assigned on a first-come, first-serve basis.
